Here's a cute joke that goes like this ... The first testicular guard (box) was used in cricket in 1874 and the first cricket helmet was used in 1974. It took men 100 years to realize that the brain was important. Definitely written by a woman! The cricket helmet was designed to prevent serious head injuries caused by a cricket ball. The cricket helmet actually evolved when batsmen sought protection from head injuries caused by short pitch bowling.
